UP WIDE STAIRS - THREE OR FOUR PERSON RESCUE

  • Wide stairs have the advantage of allowing rescuers to be on both sides of the victim. They are usually found in industrial settings and are normally constructed with steel and or concrete. They are often perceived to be stronger than narrow stairs. Their strength and wide stance allows more rescuers to assist in moving the victim up and down.

Three person up

  • The victim is brought to the center of the bottom step and placed in a seated position.

  • Two rescuers position themselves on each side of the victim at the shoulder. The third rescuer stands between the victims’ legs.

  • The top rescuers reach down and grab the harness next to their legs.

  • The bottom rescuer standing between the victims’ legs reaches down grabbing a leg in each hand under the knee area, wheelbarrow style.

  • The ready/ready/go command is given; the victim is moved up the stairs.
