FF-down:

Most often found face down due to tank on back.

They are crawling and searching on all fours.

Protective cover type position.

First roll victim over on back:
1. There is a difference on actions depending on conditions.

This allows you to think, talk, and listen for other PASS that could be going off in the area.
Radio the mayday:
-
Confirm the mayday.
-
Give location if known.
-
Your plan for removal of patient. How are you going to get them out?

WHO IS IT? Radio out any info as to who it is. This helps accountably.
Check for air:
-
Lift chin area of face piece and listen for air flow.
-
If there is airflow leave the mask in place.
-
If NO AIR! Remove MMR or firefighter will suffocate.

Try to leave on mask. This will prevent you from having to remove victim’s helmet and hood. It also provides protection for victim’s face.
Roll FF over:
-
Place nearside arm straight up over head of victim. This will help prevent further injury to FF; it will also help to make the rollover easier.

Roll the victim toward you.

Victim is now exposed for quick inspection.

Face piece on or off? MMR flowing,
-
Bypass is now easily accessible if needed.
-
If victims’ mask is missing or loose they can drown in 2 inches of water.
-
Pass is now accessible to be turned off.
-
Victims’ radio is now accessible for rescuer to use to call for help if the rescuers’ battery is dead or they are without a radio.

When firefighters are turned over on their bottle they will slide easier and firefighter will now bend at the hips making removal easier.
Important.

CHECK AIR.. FIREFIGHTER COULD SUFFOCATE.

RESET PASS… IF THIS IS NOT DONE YOUR RADIO TRANSMISSIONS WILL BE COVERED.
