When you stop growing and learning, it is time to get out of the fire service! There is always something to learn. The professional looks forward to every day as an opportunity to learn something new. Never allow yourself to be put in the position to say your training let you down.
Every day all across this great nation firefighters are learning new and innovative ways to complete fire ground operations. These innovations are born out of necessity as firefighters, just like you, respond to incidents that because of building construction, staffing, fire load or any number of reasons fall outside the “textbook example” of how fire operations should be accomplished. HCFTN was developed by firefighters for firefighters as a place to share that kind of information and have a little “shop talk” about the fire service. The old saying “there are a million ways to skin a cat” is the epitome of the fire service. Everyone has “their way” of doing something whether it’s their department’s way or their personal way. That is what we are looking for. What seems so simple and easy to you may solve a problem for someone else, and all of us can learn something from each other. HCFTN includes subjects that pertain directly to our job and how we function. We believe that high-impact, realistic, hands-on training and personal awareness will make for a more efficient, effective, and safer fire ground. Most of the material found on this site has come from real-life experience, which does not necessarily follow standard textbook operations. We will be passing on material that we have learned as well as material other firefighters have learned. We will be updating frequently in the subject matters of Firefighter Survival, RAT-Rapid Assistance Team, Truck Company Operations, Engine Company Operations, Strategic and Tactical Planning, Building Construction and changes that effect us, Rescue Company Operations, the Changing Fire environment and Lessons learned from other fire departments. We hope that you find the information beneficial to your job and your ability to keep up with the fast paced ever-changing fire ground environment we are faced with. This site is not intended to undermine accepted safety standards; it is simply a place to share on the job experiences. We will not support fire department bashing or fire department personnel bashing. There are more that enough places on the net for people to do that. It is also in no way affiliated with any fire department and the comments and views are those of the contributors alone and do not represent the fire department for which they work. If you would like to contribute to the site please send your information to Josh through our contact page We are looking for your own personal experience and any links to other sites that you have found. HCFTN is a supporter of State Fire School-Ohio at Bowling Green State University. See links page for a wide variety of upcoming and available trainings, which include but are not limited to:
