HUD COVERS

 

With the problems that have been surfacing in the housing industry we are seeing more and more vacant houses. Over the last several years The US Department of Housing and Urban Development designed a system of boarding windows that can give firefighters problems. They are designed to keep the vagrants out but at the same time trap firefighters. The are plywood cut to fit the window and braced on the backside with 2”x4” lumber secured with a long nut bolt system.
 

 

 

 

 

  

                  

Hopefully in most cases we will determine these fires a defensive but if interior operations are in place these must be removed. The most efficient way to remove them is using a rotary saw to cut the bolt heads or use a chain saw and cut around the bolt heads.

                    

Worst case scenario is use a large sledge and brute force to drive the bolt heads thru the plywood . This will take time and manpower but can be done

                             

With the future of the housing market these days we may be faced with more and more HUD type window coverings.
