Continuing Education Requirements

In this document you will find all of the training requirements that have been adopted by the State of Ohio.These requirements are similar to the requirements for CEUs for EMT certifications.These requirements take effect January 1, 2008.

­FIREFIGHTERS CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
All personnel who currently hold an EMT certification and are certified as a firefighter will be required to submit for renewal of their fire card between January 1, 2008 and December 1,2008.Once your fire card has been renewed it will be good until your birthday in the same year that your EMT certification expires.(If your EMT certification is good until 2009 and your birthday is January 25th,then your fire card will expire on January 25th 2009.)

*IF YOU FAIL TO RENEW YOUR FIRE CARD THEN YOUR CARD WILL BE REVOKED AND YOU WILL HAVE TO SUBMIT THROUGH THE STATE TO HAVE IT REINSTATED.­­

CEU requirements

  • If your card expires in the 1st12 months you do not have to have any CEUs.
  • If your card expires between 12 months but less than 24 months you will need to have 18 CEUs to renew your card after your initial renewal.
  • If you card expires between 24 months but less that 36 months you will have to have 36 CEUs to renew your card after your initial renewal.

*The state requirement for yearly CEUs is 18 contact hours. SycamoreTownship is going to require 50 hours of continued fire training.You will have to have 54 contact hours every 3 years to renew your certification. The state has put the responsibility of your certification on you.SycamoreTownship will provide opportunities for these continuing education hours. It will be your responsibility to make sure that you can provide proof of these trainings.The trainings will be tracked in Sunpro, however it will be your responsibility to make sure you meet the minimum requirements.

FIRE SAFETY INSPECTOR CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

All personnel who currently hold an EMT certification and are certified as a fire safety inspector will be required to submit for renewal of their fire safety inspector card between January 1, 2008 and December 1, 2008.Once your fire card has been renewed it will be good until your birthday in the same year that your EMT certification expires. (If your EMT certification is good until 2009 and your birthday is January 25th, then your fire card will expire on January 25th 2009.)

CEU Requirements

  • If your card expires in the 1st12 months you do not have to have any CEUs.
  • If your card expires between 12 months but less than 24 months you will need to have 10 CEUs to renew your card after your initial Renewal.
  • If you card expires between 24 months but less that 36 months you will have to have 20 CEUs to renew your card after your initial renewal.

*You will have to have 30 contact hours every 3 years to renew your Fire Safety Inspector Card.

Fire Safety Inspector CEU Curriculum

Specific topics outlined in the Ohio administrative code will have to be covered to renew your certification.The administrative code also requires that we provide for regular evaluation of student performance.This will be done through some sort of testing after each training session.

FIRE INSTRUCTOR

All personnel who currently hold an EMT certification and are certified as a fire instructor will be required to submit for renewal of their fire instructor card between January 1, 2008 and December 1, 2008.Once your fire card has been renewed it will be good until your birthday in the same year that your EMT certification expires.(If your EMT certification is good until 2009 and your birthday is January 25th, then your fire card will expire on January 25th 2009.)



CEU requirements

  • If your card expires between 12 months but less than 24 months you will need to have 2 CEUs to renew your card after your initial renewal.
  • If you card expires between 24 months but less that 36 months you will have to have 4 CEUs to renew your card after your initial renewal.

You will have to have 6 contact hours every 3 years to renew your Fire Instructor card.These contact hours must be related to fire instruction delivery.

*You must also be able to provide documentation of teaching 8 hours in 3 years.
